Pope Francis considers visit to Peru
(Peru This Week) - Following a meeting with the Chilean bishops, Pope Francis has begun to assess the possibility of visiting South America and may even plan a trip centered on Peru and Chile. In an interview with Vatican Radio, Chilean Cardinal Ezzati said that the Pope’s main reason to visit would be to reach young people and engage them to take part in more activities at the church.
According to Ezzati, the Pope is evaluating to cancel his visit to Uruguay and Argentina and focus instead on Peru and Chile. Pope Francis considers that the conditions to visit Argentina seem unclear and therefore is taking into consideration other South American countries.
There is no set date yet, but on Thursday, after another meeting with the Chilean priests, the Pope is expected to give further details of his South American trip.
